The Grand Canyon National Park Airport serves the number one tourist site in the State of Arizona and is the only state owned airport in the state.  It is part of the Arizona Department of Transportation.  The airport is located in Tusayan, AZ, seven miles from the South Rim and two miles from the Park Entrance.

The airport was built on the site of the first Grand Canyon Airport built in 1925.  The current airport opened in October 1965 and the airport terminal was completed and dedicated on October 20, 1967.

Grand Canyon National Park Airport is planning several improvements over the next five years including a new ARFF/Maintenance Building in 2008; drainage improvements and holding ramp in 2008 and the design and construction of a new terminal building 2009-2012.  The new terminal building will support scheduled airline operations from across the country and by changing the way visitors arrive at the Park, reduce the vehicle congestion in the Park.

The airport has one runway, 3/21, 9000 feet x 150 feet and capable of supporting aircraft with a weight bearing capacity of single wheel 88.0, double wheel 108.0 and double tandem 160.0

The airport has Aircraft Crash and Rescue services available during the control tower operating hours – 0600-2000 June 1 – September 30 and 0700-1900 October 1 – May 31.  It is available at other times when prior arrangements are made.
